The Bitch is Back:
Yep, I'm finally back, after a nearly one-year hiatus. And the reason being so is I need to provide a sense of closure for The Phenom and The Rasslin' Page, as well. So for those of you who are scratching your heads wondering what I'm saying, I'll put it in plain English: I've decided that, at least for a long, long time, I'm not working on these sites anymore. The other non-wrestling ones will have my attentions when I have time but consider these on hiatus for an unknown amount of time. Whether I'll take them down in time, that remains to be seen. I swore they wouldn't become another tombstone in the graveyard of abandoned sites but on the other hand with The Phenom, at least, I think it's a nicely done testament from a long-time fan dedicated to what he was so I might keep it around.
As for why I'm calling it quits, there are two big factors. One, I'm a busy individual and as much as I'd like to sit on my ass all day, working on this stuff, it ain't gonna happen. For as much time and effort it takes to update all the time, I can't offer it. And, two, I'm not into wrestling like I once was. My lack of enthusiasm has been ongoing, which is why my wrestling watching is pretty much down to nothing, save a few segments I catch on TV and can stand to watch.
First I'm going to tackle my general opinion of wrestling now: outside of certain match-ups, the show sucks to me. I don't like the fact that we see the same feuds all the time, along with the bullshit storylines, which center mainly on HHH, the McMahons, and whatever golden oldie they decide to dig up and throw into the show.
I like the Women's Division, which is the strongest one on RAW, in my opinion, and the cruisers on Smackdown, both groups putting on consistent, strong work. But that strong work isn't enough to capture my attention, when it's sandwiched between skits between penises, HHH (who is a big dick, in my opinion), and Sable's boobs. Sorry but to get me to watch, I need entertained from beginning to end.
And my favorite guys just ain't getting the material they need. The Dudleys, who were once gods on the mic, haven't had new material in ages. That and the fact they're either battling the same guys or don't even have a part in the show at all. Jericho, from what little I've watched is a good heel but looks to be in a rut, feud-wise. The APA are back, but they're little tag-alongs for Mean Mark, which sucks. And the whole Kane fiasco has me pissed to no end because they essentially killed one of the life forces of Kane when they ripped that mask off and killed Glen's heat as well. The way I look at it, they're working with what the creative team gives them, which ain't fucking much, and doing the best they can. However, I can't watch it because I know and expect better from them and to see them like this, well, it's painful.
So, I've given my two cents on some of my main boys and you may ask: what about Taker, who is often the object of my venom? Lord knows I'm not shy when it comes to what I think about him. Oh, ask and you shall receive: I've saved the best for last on this one.
As most of you know, I essentially call The Phenom the bread and butter of my slice 'o' cyberspace. Reason being is I've been a fan of the Undertaker's for a long-ass time. I started watching him back when he was scary as hell, and continued to intently watch (well, watch peeking through my hands during the Ministry) until he returned in 2000. Long-time site fans (or haters, depending on your taste for the site) know that after the dark, mysterious, ass-kicking biker transformed into a flat-out, another-face-in-the-crowd wrestler, who was Mean Mark Callous passing himself off as The Undertaker, it raised my ire. It continues to do so to this day.
Right now, Calaway's boring as hell. And he sure as hell isn't the Undertaker. I have a theory- somewhere on his Texas spread, the Undertaker was buried by Mean Mark, who wanted one last shot at glory. Anyway, it's amazing that the guy who, at one time, had me glued to the fuckin' TV for his every word, every flip of the hair, every buried alive match, every sniff of his nose, transformed into this. If you told me six, five, or even four years ago Calaway would pull this, I would have said you were shitting me.
And the big factor in this boringness is the gimmick, or lack thereof. I dislike the fact he essentially blames the fans for this train wreck, saying we wanted to know more about him outside the ring and that's what he's giving us. Hell, to quell that curiosity, he could have done a few more shoot interviews and I, along with a multitude of other fans, would have been more than satisfied with that than what he's done the past few years. And if Mean Mark, which is what he is now, minus the chaps, was so damn great, he would have had a long career in WCW. Instead, the gimmick didn't draw, they dropped him, and he had the chance of a lifetime in the WWF. You'd think he would learn from history and that Mean Mark never drew like Undertaker did.
Another thing that pissed me off about Mean Mark was a few months ago and was the nail in the coffin for this site, he was doing more of his speaking before he was thinking. And his target this time- the Internet fans. Now, I'm a 'net fan or smark, if you prefer. So if the goober's taking shots at smarks, he's taking a shot of me, who has been a fan for a hell of a lot of time. I don't care that he has an opinion different than mine because he's entitled to his as much as I'm entitled to mine. But his approach about it sucks.
Personally, I think it's kind of childish on his part- he reads something he doesn't like and decides to try and shoot back. Also, if he really doesn't care what we say, why does he take the time to publicly blast those who dish it out instead of letting it roll off like water off a duck's back? Personally, the "keeping things in the business secret" argument many of them use to blast 'net fans/critics, and I believe Calaway himself has used, doesn't fly with me because the lid was blown off years ago, the lid pried off by your own boss. And back to Taker: if the 'net fans thought he was a wrestling god, instead of a pussywhipped, politicking, boring nimrod, he wouldn't say a word. But it's gotten under his skin that -gasp- there are people who express their opinions when he screws up.
And I know Taker has visited fan sites and maybe this is one of them. If so, this next part is directed to him.
Sorry, Taker, I can't just sit back and mindlessly enjoy a show that's sucking, especially when I've been a paying fan. As a long-time consumer of the WWF, I've put money in your company's pockets, which trickles down to your salary. I've helped pay for everything from your divorce settlement to HHH's engagement ring for Stephanie. And as such, I've been entitled to every damn opinion I've written. Also, from the people who don't like the big bad 'net fans, they've said if you don't like it, don't watch. Guess what- I'm not anymore.
To sum this up regarding my feelings on WWF wrestling and the "Undertaker," I think an alleged quote is in order. This one was supposedly used by Calaway when asked to job to Lesnar last year and by not jobbing cooled his monster, veteran-squashing persona...
"I'm not feeling it."
